How Does CBD Work?January 28, 2020
So what exactly is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a popular and amazingly effective natural remedy used for many ailments common today.
Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is one of the 104 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids found in the hemp plant or Cannabis Sativa. These compounds stimulate the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). More about the Endocannabinoid system can be found below.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and causes the sensation of getting “high” that is often associated with marijuana. However, unlike THC, CBD is NOT psychoactive.
This non-psychoactive quality makes CBD an appealing option for those who are looking for relief from pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana or the adherent dangers of certain pharmaceutical drugs.
All Ohio Green Releaf’s CBD products are derived from US-grown hemp plants — never marijuana.
CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the hemp plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil. Most often the carrier oil consists of coconut or hemp seed oil and often a combination of the two.
CBD is rapidly gaining momentum in the health and wellness world and some scientific studies have confirmed it may help treat a wide variety of ailments from chronic pain to anxiety.

Understanding the Endocannabinoid System
The endocannabinoid system is possibly one of the most fascinating systems in the body. It was discovered through researching the effects of cannabis on the body in 1992. The research found that mammalian bodies come with a built-in endocannabinoid system (ECS) composed of endogenous neuromodulatory lipids and cannabinoid receptors. These endocannabinoids and their receptors are found everywhere in the body from the brain and other organs to glands and immune cells. The endocannabinoid system works differently in different parts of the body, but the end goal is homeostasis (internal balance). The ECS system is involved in a variety of important physiological processes – including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory. Also discovered was that the cannabis plant is loaded with phytocannabinoids (plant cannabinoids or CBD) that can stimulate the ECS receptor sites of this system. In fact, this amazing system that regulates the body’s internal balance got its name from the cannabis plant that made its discovery possible.
Research reported in the Scientific American found endocannabinoids are largely responsible for this natural “hit” of euphoria that increases feelings of well-being and decreases the perception of pain.
